Jazz Will Be Booming in Quebec City

The Quebec City Jazz en juin Festival (June Jazz Festival) promises to be spectacular this year, taking place from June 20th to 30th across seven magnificent venues. This event will host 350 musicians for a total of 90 performances, with 60 of them being free. Whether outdoors or indoors, jazz enthusiasts, from novices to connoisseurs, will have plenty to enjoy.

The opening show promises a unique experience with an improvisation duel featuring a quartet from Quebec City and a quartet from Montreal. Members of the press, who had the chance to attend a preview during the program launch on April 2nd in Quebec City, can attest to the incredible musical level of this event. The audience will also be invited to vote for their favorite team.

A Free and Diverse Outdoor Program
From June 27th to 30th, 2024, festival-goers will have the chance to enjoy nearly 30 outdoor performances in 3 different neighborhoods of Quebec City across 5 stages, all for free! Among the three neighborhoods where local artists will jazz it up is Vieux-Québec (Old Quebec), in collaboration with Château Laurier. This major partner of the event will offer a jazz-themed terrace for the 5@9 during the 11 days of the festival. Saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Laurent Barbier will be the perfect rendezvous to set the jazz mood just before the concerts! Then, festival-goers can head to Limoilou and its charming Domaine de Maizerets, from June 27th to 30th, 2024, where two outdoor stages will alternate. In Sainte-Foy, on June 29th, a stage will be set up at the intersection of chemin Sainte-Foy and avenue Marguerite-Bourgeois.

Highlights of the Indoor Program
Over 30 performances in 7 prestigious indoor venues will captivate audiences! Some concerts by international artists will be exclusive to Jazz en Juin. On June 30th, the EYM trio with the extraordinary singer and flutist Varijashree Venugopal will be featured, and on June 25th, Italian violinist Luca Ciarla with his most surprising solo concert will also perform at the Festival.

Internationally renowned artists, such as Norwegian pianist Tord Gustavsen, on June 29th, already sold out in Montreal, will perform this June. A performance by Grammy-nominated Chicago-born saxophonist Chris Potter will take place on June 26th, and the prodigious guitarist Julian Lage on June 28th, will also delight jazz lovers.

The festival offers a variety of styles that will satisfy both beginners and experts. The Quebec City Jazz en Juin Festival (June Jazz Festival) fits perfectly within the enchanting setting of one of the most beautiful cities in the world and marks the beginning of the summer season.
